Budget & Precept Information

This page provides information on how the Parish Council calculates the precept, along with quarterly budget reports & Precept requests.

How the Parish Council Sets the Precept

The precept is the portion of your Council Tax that goes directly to the Parish Council. It is the main source of funding for the council’s activities, services, and community projects.

Each year, the Parish Council reviews its expected income and expenditure for the coming financial year. This process usually takes place in the autumn and winter months. Councillors look at:

  • The cost of running and maintaining community facilities (such as open spaces).

  • Funding for local services, events, and improvement projects.

  • Administrative costs, including staff salaries, training, and insurance.

  • Any reserves that need to be set aside for future projects or unexpected expenses.

Once this draft budget is prepared, the Council considers how much money will be required to meet these needs. The precept is set by the council in December each year and for 2025/26 is £84,000.00 which amounts to a Band D rate of £123.92 per annum. The rest of the Council’s income is from rental income and grants. The precept request is then submitted to the District Council, which collects it on behalf of the Parish as part of the overall Council Tax bill.

The amount collected is shared across all households in the parish according to their Council Tax band.

By law, the Parish Council must set a balanced budget – meaning planned spending cannot exceed the income available. Councillors aim to keep the precept fair and proportionate, while ensuring the parish has the resources it needs to maintain and improve local services.
