Council Meetings

A Parish Council Meeting is a formal gathering where elected councillors discuss and make decisions on local community matters. It includes reviewing previous minutes, public participation, planning applications, financial decisions, and updates on local projects. The meeting ensures transparency, allowing residents to voice concerns and stay informed. It plays a key role in grassroots democracy, shaping local policies and services.

All of our meetings are open to the public and take place either at the Memorial Hall, Salford Priors or the Baptist Church Hall, Dunnington. Members of the public and press are welcome to attend.

Click on the Council Meetings link above to find out when the meetings take place. Click on the meeting to download the agenda which is published approximately 1 week before a meeting. Minutes are published approximately one week after the meeting.

Parish Council Consultative Planning Committee

The Parish Council Consultative Planning Committee reviews planning applications submitted to Stratford-upon-Avon District Council Planning Authority. These applications are subject to a 21-day consultation period before the District Council reaches a decision. The committee convenes between Ordinary Parish Council meetings if necessary; otherwise, planning applications are discussed during the full Council’s monthly meetings.

As a consultee in the planning process, the committee does not have the authority to approve or reject planning applications. Instead, it provides a perspective that reflects local opinions to Stratford-upon-Avon District Council. The Local Planning Authority, which is responsible for making final decisions, considers these viewpoints along with input from the public and other relevant authorities.

Meeting notices and agendas are displayed on the seven parish notice boards at least three clear working days before the meeting date. These boards are located at Bomford Way, two locations on School Road, Priors Crescent, outside Dunnington C of E Primary School, the Rushford bus stop layby, and Abbots Salford.

Annual Parish Meetings

The Annual Parish Meeting is an open gathering for all residents of Salford Priors. While it is organised by the Parish Council, it is not a formal council meeting.

By law, this meeting must take place between 1st March and 1st June—ours is typically held in April. It is chaired by the Parish Chairman, with the Clerk recording the minutes. However, Councillors hold no greater authority than any other registered elector in Salford Priors during this meeting.

This event provides an opportunity for the Parish Council to reflect on the past year’s activities and share future goals. More importantly, it serves as an open forum where residents can raise issues that matter to the community, such as:

  • Suggesting projects or initiatives for the Parish Council to explore
  • Voicing concerns about upcoming plans in the parish
  • Asking questions to the Parish Council
  • Discussing broader issues affecting the community

Any registered elector of Salford Priors is welcome to speak at the meeting.
