Synopsis of Issues Raised by Salford Priors PC
Salford Island A46/B439 Oversley to Evesham
- Temporary Concrete Jersey Barriers still in place since the HGV accident 18th January 2021
NH Response – Scheme to remove and strengthen Armco barrier – Autumn 2025 - Pedestrian & Cycle crossing over carriageway no advance warning for drivers, no warning signs.
NH Response – Totally unaware that pedestrians and cyclists have to cross the road situation to be reviewed as a matter of urgency. - Speed of Traffic Approaching Island
NH Response – To review driver visibility planting trees central reservation - Configuration of traffic flows on island. Poor Design.
NH Response – To review island traffic flow small scale remedial; measures white lining. - Queuing traffic on A46 at Twyford Island – Request for Vehicle Activated Queuing Traffic Signs to be installed.
NH Response – To forward request to NH Planning Team who are finalising a major improvement Plan for the Evesham Bypass. - Salford Island improve the landscaping the approach is detrimental to the village.
NH Response – Agree To review landscaping of the island. - Litter – both carriageways badly affected by litter
NH Response – Agreed that their agents Warwickshire County Council (Stratford District Council) & Worcestershire County Council (Wychavon District Council) had not carried out any litter clearance in 2025, however on travelling to the meeting SDC were out collecting litter between Stratford & Alcester. - Speed Enforcement this section of the A46T has an above average collision rate than any other section of the A46T Hull to Gloucester. Each fatality costs the public purse £1 million The stretch of road between Stratford on Avon and Evesham has become the forgotten section. Off Salford Island we have one of the largest employers in South Warwickshire and the European headquarters of an international engineering group.
Midland Connect Response – MC have not carried any form of survey on this section they were not aware of the employment site, they will conduct a traffic flow, environmental and economic assessment on this section of road and present their findings to National Highways to support any future funding bid to the Treasury.
NH Response – In talks with Warwickshire Police to re-instate Speed Cameras between Stratford and Alcester – Will contact both Warwickshire & West Mercia Police forces on excess speed between Alcester & Evesham.
- Closing Statement from Salford Priors PC – None of the above issues or those raised by other councils this afternoon should be taken in isolation the entire section of the A46T between Stratford & Evesham should be reviewed as for Warwickshire County Council it stops at Stratford, likewise for Worcestershire County Council it stops at Evesham.
We have become the forgotten communities of the A46, we call on all stakeholders present and neighbouring MPs to work together to produce a viable action plan.
In the wider economic national context, the significance of the A46 (T) as a primary route to the Southwest cannot be underestimated. It plays a crucial role in supporting regional connectivity, economic activity, and the flow of goods and services between the East Midlands and the Southwest.
The A46 (T) corridor is not only a vital transport link but also a major economic development corridor through the district of Stratford-on-Avon. As such, ensuring the road’s safety is essential not only for current residents and road users but also in anticipation of future growth and development.
The Office of the MP will be issuing meeting notes, action plans and copies of the four PowerPoint presentations.
Midlands Connect researches, develops and progresses transport projects which will provide the biggest possible environmental, economic and social benefits for the Midlands and the rest of the UK.
They examine every option for improving major transport infrastructure in our region, analysing the cost, impact and benefits of delivering these changes, and ensuring there is a strong pipeline of projects being developed to improve mobility across the Midlands. Their evidence base is then used to prioritise the most urgent and beneficial improvements, and we work alongside our partners and Government to secure funding for their development and implementation.
Their aim of improvements is to transform regional and UK gateways, bringing the Midlands closer together and accelerating cost-effective improvements to unlock east-west connectivity that will enable the Midlands’ economies to work more effectively together.
