Share Your Life Story: Join the Salford Priors Local History Project
Bidford and District History Society (BDHS) has been working closely with the Warwickshire Records Office for many years. Thanks to their support, BDHS opened a local archive in Bidford in 2019, covering Bidford, Salford Priors, and surrounding villages.
Now, BDHS is leading an exciting new project: inviting local residents to share their life stories—from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, right up to 2025. This initiative is part of a county-wide effort to preserve personal histories for future generations.
Why write your story?
-
For the archive: Your story becomes part of the community’s legacy, a resource for future historians—just as stories helped us publish Yesterday’s Children in 2012.
-
For your family: Share the experiences your children and grandchildren may never have asked about.
-
For yourself: Reflecting on your life—your education, work, family, and challenges—can be a deeply rewarding experience.
There’s no set format. Whether you write a detailed account or simply list memories, every contribution matters.
A first group of participants is already meeting every few months, discussing different life periods and supporting each other in shaping their stories. BDHS provides guidance on structure and content to help you get started.
They hope to set up similar groups in Salford Priors; this project is being supported by the Parish Council and runs until July 2026, with the possibility of a community celebration at its conclusion.
